All Portcrystal locations: 6 permanent spots, portable crystals, and best placement for fast travel.
Portcrystal Locations: All 6 & Best Placement
Dragon's Dogma 2 has 6 permanent Portcrystals: Vernworth, Harve Village, Melve, Checkpoint Rest Town, Bakbattahl, and Volcanic Island Camp. Only the first two shipped at launch; Capcom added the other four through title updates. Portable Portcrystals come mainly from the Sphinx's riddles, the Monster Culling quest reward, and Wyrmslife Crystal vendors, and the single best place to drop your first portable is Sacred Arbor, the one major hub with no permanent crystal.

All 6 Permanent Portcrystals
At launch the game had exactly two stationary crystals, in Vernworth and Harve Village. Later patches added the other four: the official update notes record Portcrystals for Melve, Checkpoint Rest Town, and Volcanic Island Camp, plus a later Portcrystal for Bakbattahl. As of the Dark Arisen launch on October 9, 2026, the network looks like this:
Official source: Dragon's Dogma 2 Title Updates — "Added Portcrystals to Melve, Checkpoint Rest Town and Volcanic Island Camp" and "Adding a Portcrystal to Bakbattahl."
| # | Permanent Portcrystal | Region | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Vernworth | Vermund | The capital's crystal; the hub most trips route through |
| 2 | Harve Village | Vermund, west coast | The second launch crystal, west of Vernworth |
| 3 | Melve | Vermund, north | Added post-launch; covers the early-game village |
| 4 | Checkpoint Rest Town | Vermund–Battahl border | Added post-launch; anchors the border crossing |
| 5 | Bakbattahl | Battahl | Added post-launch after player requests |
| 6 | Volcanic Island Camp | Agamen Volcanic Island | Added post-launch; south of the northern entrance, between two ballistas |
Touch a permanent crystal once to activate it, and it stays on your map as a Ferrystone destination. Three more permanent crystals appear only in the endgame Unmoored World state, at Sacred Arbor, Agamen Volcanic Island, and the Seafloor Shrine. Plan portable placements around the six above, not around crystals that only exist after the point of no return.
Portable Portcrystals: Every Known Source
Portable Portcrystals are items you carry, drop where you like, and pick back up to move. Capcom's own manual states the rule: using a Ferrystone transports you to a Portcrystal's location, and once placed, a Portcrystal can be recovered if you wish to move it somewhere else.
Official source: Dragon's Dogma 2 Official Web Manual — Items and Equipment
| Source | What you do | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Sphinx: Riddle of Madness | Present an NPC you have high affinity with; most players bring their main pawn | The only guaranteed portable from the riddle chain |
| Sphinx: duplication riddle | Give her an item through a later riddle and she duplicates it | The standard way to copy a Portcrystal; finish before she relocates to her second shrine |
| Monster Culling quest reward | Complete the Monster Culling quest | Added by a title update; players who already finished it received the crystal into inventory |
| Wyrmslife Crystal vendors | Trade Wyrmslife Crystals at the Bay Wayside Shrine hermit or the Dragonforged | Guides report the hermit charging 20 Wyrmslife Crystals; confirm the price in-game as it is patch-sensitive |
A placement restriction worth knowing: a title-update fix closed a bug that let Portcrystals be dropped in restricted areas, so if a spot refuses your crystal, move into open ground and try again.
The Sphinx relocates to a second shrine partway through her riddle chain. Finish the Riddle of Madness and any duplication at her first location before she leaves.
How Fast Travel Works With Portcrystals
The loop has three parts: activate the crystal, spend a stone, arrive. Touch any Portcrystal to register it, then open the map, move the cursor to a Portcrystal, and use a Ferrystone to jump there.
The economy around the loop changed with the expansion. The reusable Eternal Ferrystone is granted automatically after talking to Brant during the Seat of the Sovran quest, the same conversation opening the DLC. Standard Ferrystones also got cheaper on Normal, dropping from 10,000G to 5,000G.
Activation requires physically touching the crystal once. Detour to touch the Volcanic Island Camp and Bakbattahl crystals the first time you pass nearby, even with no reason to return yet.
Best Placement: Where to Drop Your Portables
With six permanents covering both capitals, the border, the coast, and the volcanic north, portable slots are best spent on the gaps: the elven lands, the deep south, and whichever quest hub your current stage revolves around.
| Priority | Placement | Why it earns the slot |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Sacred Arbor | The only major settlement with no permanent crystal; the elven questline turns on having a jump point here |
| 2 | Sphinx's shrine area | The riddle chain demands repeated visits with specific cargo; a nearby crystal saves multiple mountain treks |
| 3 | Agamen Volcanic Island interior | The permanent camp crystal covers the entrance, but the Dragonforged and deep caves sit far beyond it |
| 4 | Flexible slot | Rotate with your quest log: Nameless Village, the Excavation Site, or a dungeon cluster during the Lost Rites trials |
| 5+ | Duplicated extras | One at your favorite farming loop, one at a second quest hub |
Two principles hold up. First, spread portables across regions rather than stacking them near permanents; a crystal ten minutes from Vernworth saves ten minutes, while one at Sacred Arbor saves an hour. Second, portables are recoverable, so there is no permanent mistake: drop one aggressively for tonight's quest and move it next session.
Norgan: What We Know So Far
As of October 10, 2026, no official source documents Portcrystals in Norgan: the title-update notes list additions only for Melve, Checkpoint Rest Town, Volcanic Island Camp, and Bakbattahl. Two early media signals exist but neither is cross-verified: one VGC quest guide describes an open area with a permanent Portcrystal reached during The Castle in Ice quest, and Game8 hosts a Norgan-dedicated Portcrystal list whose title is confirmed but whose body has not been independently checked. Treat both as reports in progress, not established facts.
| Report | Status | Why it stays qualified |
|---|---|---|
| Permanent crystal at The Castle in Ice summoning ground | Single-outlet report | VGC quest guide only; no second source or official note as of October 10, 2026 |
| Norgan-wide Portcrystal list on Game8 | Title only | List page exists but contents not independently checked |
| Whether the Norgandian Settlement has its own crystal | Unknown | No verified source as of October 10, 2026 |
| Whether Norgan adds new portable sources | Unknown | No verified source as of October 10, 2026 |
Practical advice: do not burn a base-game portable on Norgan's front door until any regional network there is documented. Enter with anchor slots intact and keep a portable spare for the north. The Norgan region guide tracks the settlement, story beats, and exploration routes as the map fills in.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many permanent Portcrystals are there?
Six on the normal map: Vernworth, Harve Village, Melve, Checkpoint Rest Town, Bakbattahl, and Volcanic Island Camp. Three more exist only in the Unmoored World endgame at Sacred Arbor, Agamen Volcanic Island, and the Seafloor Shrine.
How do I get a portable Portcrystal?
The reliable paths are the Sphinx's Riddle of Madness, duplicating one through her later duplication riddle, the Monster Culling quest reward, and Wyrmslife Crystal vendors such as the Bay Wayside Shrine hermit.
Can I move a Portcrystal after placing it?
Yes. Walk up to a placed portable and recover it, then drop it somewhere else. Only the six permanent crystals are fixed. Restricted areas reject placement by design.
Do I still need Ferrystones if I have the Eternal Ferrystone?
No. The Eternal Ferrystone is reusable and covers all your jumps once Brant hands it over during Seat of the Sovran. Standard Ferrystones remain as backup, now at 5,000G on Normal. Pickup details are in the Eternal Ferrystone fast travel guide.
Did the DLC change fast travel in the base map?
The crystals predate the DLC, but the expansion era stacks every convenience at once: the Eternal Ferrystone, map-cursor Ferrystone use, and the full six-crystal permanent network.
Where should my very first portable go?
Sacred Arbor. Every other candidate either gained a permanent crystal through patches or sits close enough to one, while the elven settlement still has no permanent anchor in the normal world.
