15 Beginner Tips Before Entering Norgan

Push the main story to Vernworth, reach level 40 for Norgan (level 20 for Lost Rites), and sort vocation, fast travel, and cash before heading north. Dark Arisen launched 2026-10-09; this Day 1 checklist, updated 2026-10-10, covers what to do first so Norgan stops hurting.

Day 1 Checklist: What to Do First

If you only have one session before Norgan, work this table top to bottom.

# Task Where / how Why it matters
1 Advance the main story to Vernworth Up to Seat of the Sovran Unlocks both DLC questlines via Brant
2 Talk to Brant at the tavern Vernworth Stardrop Inn, at night Starts the Lost Rites and Norgan lines
3 Claim the Eternal Ferrystone Automatic from Brant Free fast travel to any Portcrystal
4 Reach level 20, aim for 40 Base-game quests plus exploration 20 for Lost Rites, 40 for Norgan
5 Max your main vocation rank Vocation guild, spend Discipline Points Unlocks all skills for skill-boosting gear
6 Set up 6 weapon skill slots Pause menu after Title Update 3.2 Two extra slots change every rotation
7 Buy or place Portcrystals deliberately Keep one portable crystal for the frontier Leapfrog forward in Norgan
8 Stock Wakestones and camping kits Vendors and guilds Norgan hits harder and nights run longer
9 Clear storage and carry weight Inn storage in Vernworth Room for the Relic flood
10 Appraise Relics daily Norgandian Settlement NPC Random-stat upgrades are the loop
The golden loop

Explore in short bursts, appraise everything, equip upgrades, sell the surplus, then rest. End each day with an appraisal trip and start the next one stronger.

Push the Main Story to Vernworth First

Both DLC questlines open through the same door. Capcom's Q&A wording is that both can be accessed early in the main story by speaking with Brant at the tavern after arriving in Vernworth. Launch-build reports narrow this down: go to the Stardrop Inn at night and pick the dialogue option about the new Arisen.

Do not rush past the capital. Vernworth beats get you levels, gold, and the pawn levels you need for the north. Launch-day testing advises progressing the base game deep before committing to Norgan, because Relic gear trivializes leftover bosses anyway.

If Brant offers nothing, work through more main quests and come back at night. The Brant location and quest fix walkthrough covers the entry steps and the missing-quest workaround.

Hit Level 40 for Norgan, Level 20 for Lost Rites

Producer Naoto Oyama gave suggested levels of 40 for the Forsaken Dominion (Norgan) and 20 for the Lost Rites. Anything below that can still enter; the numbers are guidelines, not gates.

Track Suggested level Location Rewards
Lost Rites first 20+ 12 dungeons across Vermund and Battahl Pathfinder trials, past-Arisen loot
Norgan first 40+ Forsaken Dominion, far north of Vermund Relic expeditions, Fallen Dragon story

Below level 40, treat your first Norgan landing as a smash-and-grab, not a conquest. Testers report the first fights in base-game gear hit brutally hard, then stabilize fast once the first Relics get appraised. If underleveled, run the Lost Rites circuit first: levels and past-Arisen gear without the attrition of the north. Details are on the level requirement guide.

Max Out Your Vocation Before You Go

There are no brand-new vocations in Dark Arisen — Capcom confirmed this directly — so prep is about ranks, not rerolls. Max the vocation rank for both your Arisen and your Main Pawn and buy every skill. Several Relic pieces boost specific skills, so a full library turns random drops into instant upgrades.

Prep choice Recommendation Reason
Main vocation Max rank, all core skills plus augments A full kit stays flexible through gear churn
Second vocation One maxed backup set in storage Pivot when enemies punish your plan
Warfarer Strong pick if you juggle vocations Earns Discipline Points across the board
Skill slots Fill all 6 slots after Title Update 3.2 Slot count went from 4 to 6
New skills Check trainers after installing the DLC Each vocation gained new and higher-tier skills

Do not over-invest in upgrading one base-game weapon to the maximum. Launch testers note Norgan gear arrives in a constant stream instead, so flexibility beats attachment: swap to higher-stat pieces as they appraise.

Grab the Eternal Ferrystone and Plan Portcrystals

Fast travel logistics decide whether Norgan feels like an expedition or a death march. The Eternal Ferrystone is a free reusable travel item granted automatically from Brant during Seat of the Sovran, usable on any discovered Portcrystal. Standard Ferrystones also got cheaper in Normal mode, from 10000G to 5000G per the official update notes.

Travel tool How to get it Best use
Eternal Ferrystone Automatic from Brant in Seat of the Sovran Unlimited jumps between Portcrystals
Permanent Portcrystals 6 fixed spots in the base game Backbone network, plus Norgan placements
Portable Portcrystal Vendors and exploration rewards Drop at your furthest safe camp, leapfrog north
Oxcarts and camping kits Vendors, guilds Cover gaps with no crystal yet

The working method from launch-day testing: push to the furthest point you can hold, drop a portable crystal, Ferrystone back to appraise and rest, then jump straight back in daylight. Bank progress while the sun is up and brave the dark once Relic gear stabilizes. Full mechanics are on the Eternal Ferrystone fast travel guide and the Portcrystal locations guide.

Money and Materials: Sell Smart, Appraise Daily

Norgan runs on churn. Relics drop from kills and field pickups, get appraised at the Norgandian Settlement, and come back as weapons, armor, and skills with random parameters. Inventory floods fast: appraise after every run, keep one set per vocation in storage, sell duplicates, gear hired pawns from the surplus, and refresh Rift hires after gains of roughly 5 levels.

Two economy facts from the October 2026 update notes: forgotten riftstone interactions now grant 90 Rift Crystals instead of 30, with the difference refunded, and saves moved to three slots per Arisen with separate autosave, interim, and inn-rest saves.

How the random stats and rarities work is covered on the Relic appraisal and farming guide.

Surviving Norgan: Cold, Quests, and Verticality

The region is the final prep item. Norgan is a snowy ruined frontier far north of Vermund, built around a settlement hub and an expedition story involving Eir and the Fallen Dragon. Three launch-window findings, all from media testing not official notes: cold drains stamina so carry Heatstones, ruins hide ladders and breakable walls so look up and down, and early side quests pay Relics plus vendor standing, reportedly including a Winterbloom errand for the smith and a direwolf named Freki who sniffs out treasure.

Launch-week caveat

Winterbloom, Freki, Heatstone recipes, and the early undead dragon fight trick all come from launch-day media testing, not Capcom patch notes. Treat them as strong leads; exact stats and drop tables will shift as the community maps the region.

For dungeon prep, the 12 Lost Rites trials sit on the base map across both nations and reward past-Arisen equipment: the best warm-up before the snow. Locations and doors are tracked on the Lost Rites dungeon locations guide.

FAQ

Should I enter Norgan at level 30? You can enter once the questline is open, but expect a rough landing. Do short loot runs plus the Lost Rites circuit, not a full conquest.

What story progress do I need before the DLC? Reach Vernworth and the Seat of the Sovran stretch, then speak with Brant at the tavern. That conversation is the official unlock for both DLC tracks.

Which should I do first, Norgan or Lost Rites? Lost Rites first if you are below 40. The dungeon rewards feed directly into your Norgan loadout.

Do I need a new character or vocation for Dark Arisen? No. There are no new vocations, and the DLC works on existing saves. Bring your highest-ranked character and a maxed vocation.

How do I stop running out of money? Appraise after every run and sell duplicates. The Relic flow replaces sold pieces quickly, so holding inventory for sentiment is the classic trap.
